President's Report

On June 12, NOARK hosted a powerful and purposeful Community Resources Roundtable and Lunch Meeting at Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield in Springdale. This event was designed to help HR professionals forge meaningful connections with local organizations that offer free and low-cost services to support employees both in and beyond the workplace.

🤝 Building Bridges Between HR and Community Support

The event kicked off with an open roundtable networking session, where NOARK members engaged directly with eight outstanding community partners. These organizations shared practical resources addressing healthcare access, youth support, family engagement, and cultural and linguistic services—all vital tools for today’s HR professionals navigating workforce challenges.

Participating organizations included:
  • UAMS Free Clinic
  • OSAZA
  • Rogers Public Library
  • Arkansas United
  • Springdale Public Library
  • Pacific Islander Linguistic Services
  • Groundwork NWA
  • Teen Action and Support Center

Each table sparked conversation around how these services can be integrated into existing benefits strategies, employee assistance programs, and wellness initiatives to create more inclusive, supportive workplace environments.

🎤 A Powerful Message from EngageNWA

Following the roundtable, attendees enjoyed a lunch and a compelling keynote by Margot Lemaster, Executive Director of EngageNWA. Her presentation, “Beyond the Workplace: The Business Case for Community Connection,” challenged HR leaders to think beyond traditional engagement models.

Using "Welcoming Week NWA 2025" as a case study, Margot illustrated how intentional partnerships with community organizations can elevate employee morale, reduce turnover, and enhance a company’s reputation as a great place to work. She encouraged attendees to incorporate community service and purpose-driven initiatives into their people strategies, not as an afterthought—but as a strategic imperative.

💡 Key Takeaways

  • Community resources are an underutilized asset in employee support and retention strategies.
  • Inclusive engagement starts with knowing what’s available—and building trust-based partnerships.
  • Purpose-driven workplaces not only attract top talent but help employees feel seen, valued, and connected.

🙏 A Special Thank You

We extend our heartfelt thanks to each of the community organizations who participated and generously shared their time, expertise, and passion. Your presence and partnership are invaluable to our members and the work we do as HR professionals. Your efforts make Northwest Arkansas a stronger, more connected place to live and work—and we are grateful for your continued collaboration.

NOARK Secretary's Address

Dear NOARK Members and Affiliates,

This month, I had the pleasure of learning from Shpresa Delisi, an account executive with SHRM, regarding the new SHRM AI readiness program that has been developed specifically for supporting HR teams and our futures. This program, known as the SHRM AI+HI Enablement Program, is an educational opportunity that is tailored to prepare you and your HR team for the new market ahead.

If you are concerned about the future of AI implementations becoming obsolete in your work practices, or making sure you have the knowledge and abilities to adapt to a fast-changing future, SHRM has you covered.

You may ask, “What areas of this enablement program would relate to my area of HR?”

Shpresa and the SHRM Team’s education targets six key areas of “recruitment, talent development, learning and development, employee experience, analytics, and HR technology — and combines strategic assessment with live training to help you prioritize use cases, align with business goals, and clearly demonstrate ROI to leadership.”

An April 2025 Forbes article stated, “A McKinsey report projects that by 2030, 30% of current U.S. jobs could be automated, with 60% significantly altered by AI tools. Goldman Sachs predicts that up to 50% of jobs could be fully automated by 2045.”

What does this mean for your role and future? How does this change the way we lead, initiate programs, outcomes, training? How do we continue to remain relevant with automations and reductions in workforce? All great questions.

My favorite question is, “How do I adapt and prepare for these changes to my environment?” The answer is training and increasing your learning and understanding of AI programming.

Programming is a word that scares some and may send some others running. When I heard this, I thought back to my attempts at tackling data analysis, tuples, Python, and things that I quickly learned were not in my wheelhouse.

Following my meeting with Shpresa, I learned that this is not the face of traditional computer science that scares me and others. AI programming is not long strings of complex math formulas and heavy memorization. This learning opportunity is something that you have at your fingertips to embrace. The SHRM AI+HI Enablement Program provides you with the ability to learn how to drive the ship of your HR operations through logical and practical nontraditional programming.

Furthermore, this program allows you to utilize and integrate solutions into current workplace objectives or challenges using AI.

AI is human function, thinking, logic, and organizational inputs constructed to create desired outcomes and practices. If we as HR Professionals are educated on how to program and drive the “AI bus,” as it increases within our areas, we can align AI integration with key HR practices for best desired outcomes. AI programs can be utilized for higher risk reduction and the incorporation of needed fail-safes.

AI is advancing quickly. To bring some comfort with the excitement and changes from AI growth, know that we have all used some form of AI without realizing it. For example, spell check in MS Word is a form of programmed AI at a basic level. If you have used this function, you already have a toe in the AI water.

However, no HR Professional can afford to operate at a basic level anymore. Let’s get ready to embrace this new wave of AI integrations, jump in the deep end of the AI pool to serve our employees and organizations, remain relevant, and ensure HR concerns and measures are incorporated into operational functions.

SHRM also offers the AI+HI Specialty Credential, which is for HR professionals seeking a foundational understanding of AI concepts and how it’s transforming HR.

If you or a colleague would like more information about the SHRM AI+HI Enablement Program or the AI+HI Specialty Credential, please contact Shpresa Delisi at [email protected].

Thank you NOARK Members and Affiliates for another wonderful month of learning and advancement. I look forward to seeing you at next month’s activities. Please see our events calendar for more information about NOARK’s future opportunities and gatherings.

All the best,
Secretary Sarah

Legislative

Advocating for HR: Reflections from the ELLA Conference

In April, I had the privilege of attending the ELLA (Employment Law and Legislative Affairs) Conference in Little Rock—a powerful gathering of HR professionals, legal experts, and policy advocates. As your Legislative Chair, it was an excellent opportunity to stay informed on key employment law updates and legislative trends that directly impact our work in HR.

The sessions covered a range of timely topics, including workplace compliance and best practices for navigating complex employee relations issues. One consistent theme throughout the conference was the importance of staying proactive, informed, and engaged—especially as laws and policies continue to evolve at both the state and federal levels.

Here are a few key tips for HR professionals:

  • Stay current on legislation: Regularly review legal updates from SHRM, your state HR council, and trusted legal partners.
  • Strengthen your compliance practices: Conduct regular policy audits and ensure documentation is consistent and up to date.
  • Engage with lawmakers and local chapters: Advocacy matters. When HR professionals speak up, policies improve.
  • Train your teams: Empower managers and employees with the knowledge they need to navigate changes confidently.

I look forward to sharing more insights in our upcoming meetings and helping keep our chapter connected to the latest developments. Together, we can continue to advocate for smart, people-focused policies that strengthen our workplaces.
